Everybody, not just you and me, needs to take some time out and indulge in a little “me time” every now and again. I have heard from various sources that the meaning of me time is not selfish at all, although some might see it that way.

Finding the time for “Me Time”

We all need to recharge our batteries at some stage of our lives, whether it’s by reading a book in the comfort of your room or garden, staring at the ceiling, or having a long, hot bubble-bath, you need to take a break. It is impossible to keep on going like a mindless hamster on a wheel, you will eventually get to a point where you are going to crash and burn. Take a break. You deserve it and you’ve earned it! Serge Prengel describes how to find your Me Time in his article titled “A Whole-Self Approach To Time Management“.

How to keep your “Me Time”

Once you have set the rules, your family will be able to recognise when you are “recharging” and will give you your space. They in turn will also learn the habit from you and will soon start creating their own space too.

Be Nice to Your Family and They Will Return the Favour

I often get home at the end of a long day and my husband and children need to talk to me about something, or want to show me something, or need me to go with them to the shops, or go and look at whatever it is they see as important, with the result that I get irritated and they get hurt. It doesn’t have to be this way if you learn how to put them off without saying the wrong thing.

Good Vibes

Instead of saying “Not now”, or “I’m not in the mood”, try saying, “Give me a few minutes to go to the bathroom and grab something to drink, then I can give you my undivided attention” or “I’m really tired and I’ve had a long day. Let me have a break for half an hour and then we can decide what needs to be done”.

Instead of frowning and glaring at them through little slits some people call eyes, try smiling at them and giving them a hug. This will really surprise them and it will make you feel good. They won’t know what hit them, and will probably try approach you again a little later, when the shock has worn off!

Read Loren Beth Meier’s thoughts on ”Nice Rules for Your Family: Law of Attraction Style!“ . It may just change your life.

My mom always says “You attract more flies with honey than vinegar.” This is true indeed.

It is a sad fact in society today that there are very few youth in our country, or elsewhere in the world for that matter, who have good manners. Whether it is while using public transport or doing shopping in a mall, we are constantly faced with young people who don’t know the meaning of simple good manners. Respect for your fellow human beings will naturally follow if good manners become part of everyday life.

Where do we Start Teaching Good Manners?

It’s simple – at home, of course. Parents are ultimately responsible for teaching their children, so we need to ask ourselves, if children don’t have good manners, then quite obviously, their parents probably don’t either (perhaps they are just too busy with other responsibilities, but this is no excuse).

Good manners should be used in everyday situations:

At home

School

College/University

The workplace

Actually, everywhere!

The Online Dictionary describes good manners as: the prevailing customs, ways of living, and habits of a people, class, period.

Read the full description for manners for a better understanding of what it means.

The following everyday words and phrases are easy to remember:

Please;
Thank you;
Excuse me, please;
Pass the salt, please;
How was your day?

Children at school should not be allowed to get away with treating their teachers disrespectfully and teachers should insist that children use good manners at all times.

If this becomes a natural thing, it will be carried through into adulthood. If children are permitted to grow up without manners, we will eventually be living in a society where people don’t know how to respect their fellow human beings.

It will take a huge amount of effort from every parent on this planet to teach their children that manners are vitally important for everyday living and to be accepted into a society that demands respect.

For more information on teaching your children good manners, read the following:
